Next Friday September 8, The Rhythm The Rebel and many more local bands will bring YO! MTV Raps back to life at The Ready Room starting at 8pm. The tribute show will take you back to the 90's with local artists covering Public Enemy, Tribe Called Quest and many more rap legends who performed on Yo! MTV Raps.
The advent of YO! MTV Raps in the late 1980s was crucial to the spread of hip-hop around the world. Through MTV Europe, MTV Asia, and MTV Latino, African-American and Latino style and sound was instantly available to millions of people across the globe. This helped to create a worldwide appreciation and interest in the hip-hop scene.
Thursday, August 10th at the Majorette was the night emerging designers from across the country stepped into the spotlight when Charles Smith II and each of the Emerging 6 owned the runway like a boss. From the classic runway presentation to a live dance performance, each designer made time stop with each of their collections, with two of them being the winners of the night.
Charles Smith II was introduced for the first time to the public of St. Louis last night on Pins and Needles 2017 at the Majorette in dramatic fashion with his collection “DO NOT TOUCH”, which is inspired in 3 today's social problems.
Designer Barbara Bultman is inspired by things that are all around her and things that effect the world. She is a Saint Louis based designer and every time she begins a new collection she tries to take in everything that she knows to create something that is innovative and will inspire others.
Thankful for being able to share himself and his heart, founder and creator of Mthreeproject, Marcel Coleman Jr. will bring some “Live Life Free” to Pins and Needles next August 10 at the Majorette. Drawn by the “life-changing opportunity,” Coleman Jr. got on the road to California just last week “with love, just to be in the presence of God” to get inspiration for this new collection.
At age 12, Amanda Casarez' fashion DNA began running through her veins after her mom introduced her to the art of sewing. A “fashionable nerd”, Casarez studied Biology and Fashion Design and Merchandising. After dressing her first celebrity, super model Veronica Webb at this year’s NYFW Red Dress Collection Show; we can’t wait to see her designs taking off the runway next August 10th at The Majorette when Pins and Needles comes to life. With the creation of her own brand, Amanda Casarez has been dressing “bold and unapologetic” women.
From Chicago, Illinois, Hailey Washington returns to Pins and Needles; this time as a designer after being amazed by the competition a few years ago when she watched the show as an attendee. Pins and Needles will return to The Majorette next August 10th and will come to life at 7:30 when Smith II kicks off the show. Hailey devoted her summers to STL Artworks art apprenticeships and SAIC’s Early College - Fashion Construction Program. She recently graduated from Dominican University, where she got a bachelor’s degree on Apparel Design and Graphic Design; and attended the Kent State NYC Fashion Studio program. With internships held previously at Tracy Reese, Cintas and working experience as assistant technical designer; we can’t help but be excited to see her experienced design skills from concept to reality.
Lindenwood University recent graduate Raven Pulliam from Springfield, Illinois; will compete at Pins and Needles next August 10 at The Majorette. When she was a little girl all she dreamed about was becoming a famous fashion designer. At a young age, she shared her love of fashion with her friends and family. She remembers creating purses and sketching designs in little catalog books she created. She quickly became obsessed with fashion. Today, she still carries that same passion for fashion into her designs. Her recent collections show her astonishing creativity, skill and design aesthetic.
