2020 – The Year of many Unexpected Turns

By Mia McManus

The year 2020 will go down in the history books as one to remember. Everyone alive during this time will have different pieces of the year that they hold onto forever. We asked each of our Fashion Anarchy designers which unexpected turn has stood out to them the most from 2020.

Mia McManus – “What has stood out to you most in 2020?”

Daniel Reyes – “What has stood out to me during COVID-19 is the selfless acts of kindness, service, and sacrifices first responders, doctors, and nurses have done for us. It takes a lot of heart to leave your family behind and let yourself fight in the front lines to safeguard the health of our communities.”

Leonard Stewart – “The coronavirus. Seeing how everything is changing – we are wearing masks, needing to stay six feet apart, people are dying, and stuff is shutting down. I am understanding to everything when it comes to social issues like Black Lives Matter, but the way I look at it is that we have been dealing with those issues for so many years. It is better, but something that is putting us on hold from the ultimate progress is the coronavirus.”

Yasi Fayal – “All the major tragedies that we experienced globally during 2020 has stuck out to me, and I think they made all of us change. I can’t say which one, but I suggest a way to move forward with hope for a brighter future.”

Trhonda Edwards – “For me personally, the Black Lives Matter movement has stuck out most. I am African American, and it has been refreshing to not only see African Americans and allies protest for what is taking place when it comes to racism and injustices, but also, to see companies and large corporations actually picking a side. Even if they don’t pick your side, it is refreshing to finally see companies stand up and say something. Many are speaking out in solidarity with the movement and actually making strides to make a difference. It has been amazing to see and to witness this, and it has been extremely impactful overall in regard to 2020. It is a step in the right direction.”
