The Emerging 6, 2017

The 9th annual Pins and Needles is on the making now that the Emerging 6 across the nation have been found. Many applications were received, but only these 6 will get to amaze us with their deigns next August 10th at The Majorette. Get to know them before the show!

Marcel Coleman Jr.

Marcel Coleman Jr. is a young creative artist from St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Columbia College Chicago, where he studied Fashion Design. There he began to learn about what his impact within the fashion industry would be. He is a color pusher, a kid at heart, and a lover of structure. Those are the key components of what he create. His surroundings, culture, family and friends are the influences of his work. He uses natural fibers, cottons & wools, he enjoys the ability to manipulate them, by adding or removing color. Kat Gaume

Kat Gaume is a Nashville native goth kid who designs unique clothes for incredible people. She designs to stand for those who have been hurt by others just for being different. Her inspiration is based off the pastel goth/grunge aesthetic, electronic music , the music festival lifestyle, and glitter. The song “I Fell It Coming” by The Weekend featuring Daft Punk embodies the soul of the collection. One of her clients is EDM vocalist and songwriter Adara who performs across country at festivals and raves. She’s participated in several Nashville fashion shows.

Raven Pulliam

Raven B. Pulliam is a 21 year old recent graduate of Lindenwood University with a BFA in Fashion Design. She has always had a passion for fashion. When she was a little girl all she dreamt about was becoming a famous fashion designer. At a young age, she shared her love of fashion with her friends and family. She remembers creating purses and sketching designs in little catalog books she created. She quickly became obsessed with fashion. Today, she still carries that same passion for fashion into her designs. Her recent collections show her astonishing creativity, skill and design aesthetic.

Amanda Casarez started her own line on May 2015 when she was selected as one of eight designers for the DC Fashion Incubator @ Macy's Metro Center after graduating from University of Hawaii at Manoa in Fashion Design and Merchandising on 2014.. The year long program focused on creating a platform to showcase emerging designer talent in DC, as well as increase their business acumen in the business of fashion. But her designs did not just stay in DC. She participated in events which included a partnership with Harlem Fashion Row and Latina Magazine for a presentation of my A/W'16 and fashion panel at Hispanizice in Miami, and the Emerging Designer Bootcamp in Phoenix where she debuted her  S/S’17. Her brand, Amanda Casarez, is “Bold and Effortless”.  A women’s advanced contemporary brand that is bold minimalistic, and slightly masculine, yet authentic and effortless. Her brand embraces her love for structure and bold print, which is reinterpreted through linear silhouettes, unique prints, textures, and multicultural accents. The effortless statement pieces are layered together to build a bold and modern wardrobe... Understated Luxury

 

Chicago native Max Wilde, who after earning a BS with a double major in Computer Science and Sociology, acquired an MSEd in Higher Education Management and followed his dream to study fashion design. He will soon complete a BFA in Fashion Design and plans to take the industry by storm. Dior is his spiritual mentor. He started later in life and changed the face of fashion. “It's never too late!” he said.

Hailey Washington

Chicago based Hailey Washington seeks to create curiosity - provoking creations. Throughout her career she’s focused on fabric manipulation, structure silhouettes, and digital design. As a young creative, she devoted her summers to STL Artworks art apprenticeships and SAIC’s Early College - Fashion Construction Program. She recently graduated from Dominican University, where she majored in Apparel Design and Graphic Design.She attended the Kent State NYC Fashion Studio program and held internships at Tracy Reese and Cintas. Today, she continues working in the fashion industry as an assistant technical designer.
